RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.

THE MINING TROUBLE.

VIEWS OP A GREYMOUTH BUSINESS MAN.

Mr G. I#. Tiaoon, a weJl-known G revmouth- (business man, at present on *a visit to ,t<his oity, said, in the course of a cfoait with* a represenitatdve of "The Press," -that tho people of the West Coast hoped, when tie (railway timetable was being readjusted in connection, with the North Island Main Trunk line, that tho Tequiremenite of the West Coast and of travellers to and from the Coast would not be overlooked. It was contended tha.t if tihe train for Oiara, left Greymouth at 6.45 a.m. passengers could comfortably connect with tihe .train from Chrisfccbjurch connecting trith the ferry steamer loavting Ly&telton (the same evening. If iihe departure of the Broken. River train from Ghrietdhuiroh was delayed till 7.30 ajn., passengers from. Wellington for tlbe Coast could connect with it. Ho pointed out that it was a fact that mails from tho North Island for Greymouth and Hokitika., conveyed by the West Coast steamers, were sometimes over a week in transit. 'Mr Taoon said that though the mining trouble has been settled temporarily, there existed a feeling of unrest on tho Coast—a feeling that a trial of strength was imminent between itho coal and gold miners and their employers. "A few agitators are doing all the mischief," added Mr Tacon; "the bulk of the miners seem to be satisfied, but these irresponsible agitators, who have no stake in the country, are stirring up strife." Mr Tacon expressed the opinion that when tho trial of strength came, itt would affect every class m the community, and the principle of preference to unionists would bo one of .its features.
