FIRE'S- SINGULAR ORIGIN.
A remarkable accident occurred recently at the residence of Mr Towneend Burden, a well known mi Jicnaire, in New York. Miss Evelyn Burden, his eldest daughter, was taking a vapour bath whtn uha alcohol lamp exploded. Imprisoned in the bath cabinet, Mac Buidsn was bad.y burned before she was released by her maid. The flames spread rapidly. The alarm was immed.atelv 'riven, and the members of the housJio.d, moit of whom were sleeping, managed to i€i.*uape- Three at-rvants, panic-stricken, attempted to leap from the windows, but were taken down by the firemen- The house was partially destioyed, and many magnificent articles of furniture, paintings, and tapestries were ruined.
