WELLINGTON, February 16. The following cable has been received from the Agent-General in London, dated February 14th:—"The mutton market ia weak, and there is a dull sale for all qualities, --c average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4Jd, and Dunedin, Southland, and W.M.E.. Co. 4Jd, and other North Island mutton 4£d. River Plate mutton is at 3Jd, and United States mutton 3Jd. There is a good demand for all classes of lamb. The average price to-day for New Zealand 'lamb, Canterbury brand, is 6Jd, and for New Zealand lamb, brands other than Canterbury, Australian lamb is at 54d, and River Plate lamb sj,d. There is scarcely any demand for frozen beef. Ine supplies of _vmerican chilled beef are large. Quotations for New Zealand beef are nominal, New Zealand hinds 3Jd, fores 3d. The butter market is lifeless. Some holdera of mitter are forcing sale*. The market has been unfavourably affected by the Canadian stored butter. The price of butter to-day is 99s per cwt. Danish is at 108, Argentine 98s, Canadian 935, and Siberian 935. The cheese market is firm. The price of New Zealand cheese is 63s per cwt, and of Canadian 645. The price of hemp, 'good, fair Wellington' grade, on spot, to-day is £32; January-March shipments £29 10s. There is a better demand for cocksfoot seed, the average price today for New Zealand 171b standard being 64a per cwt."
