THE PERTH BANK NOTE ROBBERY.
TWO MEN ARRESTED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 16th, 11.2 a.m.) PERTH, February 16. The robbery of bank notes lias been sensationally solved. The detectives learned that Bert Leighton, an actor lately in the Hawtrey Company, was lavishly buying jewellery, and spending fifty ten pound notes this way. Leighton was arrested, and a search of has room revealed £6000 worth of the missing notes in his trunk. MdLagan, the clerk who absconded, was shortly after arrested, and displayed the .utmost anxiety to make restoration. He informed the police that £1000 was hidden under the tower of the Hotel Cecil, where he was staying. He admitted that he got into debt in Kalgoorlle while trying to live above his position on £170 a year, and the temptation of handling such a lot of money at one time proved too strong for him. No indication is given as to how Leighton came to have the bulk of the stolen notes.
