COMPLIMENTARY PICNIC.

' (PBES9 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) OARTERTON, February 13. A complimentary picnic was tendered to •Mr W. O. Buchanan at Ahdakouka, near Carterton, yesterday, to commemorate his return to Parliament ac Wairarapa's representative for" the seventh time. It was the biggest affair of its kind ever held in the valley. Capital weather prevailed, and the attendance was eetimated at between three <md five thousand. The.-scene on the ground .wae one of great magnificence. In addition to Mr Buchanan, the following guests "were present: —Messrs J. Aitken, M.H.R. (Wellington), J. Duthie, M.H.R. (Wellington), and W. L. Fraser, M.H.R. (Lakes District). Apologies were received from Sir Wrrt. R. Rueiell, and the Hons. Duncan, Milla, McQowan, HallJones, Mr Artdxraon, and the Premier. Eloquent addresses were delivered by the M.-u.R.'e present and others. Sporto of all descriptions were afterward* proceeded with. Tbe toasie of Mr Buchanan's health and the P«irliament of New Zealand were enthufliaetically honoured. Refreshmente and everything were provided gratis, and the difficulties of catering for toe multifarious requirements were expeditiously and successfully overcome. The amuigements were admirable, and not a single accident occurred.
