WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

SO TOT XDITOB OV THE FUSS. Sir,—ln reply.to a lefcteF signed "Ratepayer," I *im afraid your correspondent is not a ratepayer myitis district, and if he is, why does he not sign has name, amd psk ics questions ha a genuine, aboveboard style, ■ and ihe will get answered in fair, public-spirited manner?" In taking tiie very onerous and responsible position of chairman of this Board, I have not any private ends to gain apart from other ratepayers, and I shall continue to carry on tihe work of the Board, aslhavedone, inthe very best interests of the largest number, aided by tihe best advice obtainable. It is a •v*rv serious matter to fee paying for water and not get it, but it is a more serious matter to spend our few hundred pounds on a plan of improvement of intake -which in no way will guarantee oujt supply, when we have at our command a site of intake, within our means, and where the supply is absolutely reliable, and the quantity is ample to guarantee a drinking supply to all lands not otherwise served. Let "Ratepayer" come to the chairman or secretary of the Board if he wishes to "learn," and not attempt to "raise Cain" in ihk cowardly fasliic:: -Yours, etc., M. DIXON, * Chairman W.A.S.B.
