'♦ The moonlight open-air concert of the Avonsido Lawn Tenuis Club, which wne postponed from Thursday, in consequence of the rain, .tnts held last night, and was highly successful. The pretty grounds and . pavilion were tastefully decorated with ever one hundred Chinese lanterns, which gj,ve a wry fine effect. The tea and light refreshments were in charge of Mrs Papps, arid the secretary, Mr F. J. Murray, dea<rres a word of praise for the completeness of the arrangements. A capital programme, most of the numbers of which were heartily encored, included a duet by the Mkeee Pilkington and Partridge. *o»gs by Mies Partridge, Messrs Akins, Fraer, Beveridge, and Cliff, duet by Messrs Schwartt and Beveridge, and mandoline * and banjo duet by Messrs Bobinson ana Hall. On Thursday evening a concert was held in the Hanmer Hall, the promoter being Mr Cohen, of Dunedin, and the chairman) the Rev. Mr Chambers, Lyttelton. Songs were contributed by Miss 2f. Melvtle, Father Airsworih, and the . Messrs H. Eeevts, Pike, and Rogers. Violin selections were given by Mr McKay, Father Aiasworth, acd M'aeter Wilkie, while Mrs Lonergan and the Misses Melville, Grae&elade (2) and Cooke played pianoforte duets. The musical programme was varied by two short addresses, given by the chairman. The proceeds are to be devoted towards a picnic for the school children, to be held next week.
