Sixty-three cases of typhoid have occurred at Coonamble. Ten nurses have been despatched. . THE RUSH FOR SEED WHEAT. A thousand applications have been received for seed wheat, and the applications are coming in at the rate of a hundred a day. Two hundred thousand bushels of seed wheat arrive from Adelaide ab the end of the month. THE LATE SIR CHARLES GAVAiN DUFFY. MELBOURNE, February 12The Premier and bir Arthur Peacock, 'n the Assembly, expressed regret at the news of Sir Gflarlos Gavan Duffy's death. VICTORIAN INCOME TA"X BILL. The second reading of the Income Tax Bill to readjust the tax, so as to provide an additional £180,000, wae moved in the Assembly. The Bill proposes to make tihe tax 4d and 9d, instead of 4d and 6d. The debate was adjourned. GOLD DISCOVERY IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, February 12. A telegram from Alice Springs states that a rich discovery of alluvial gold has been made at Winneckes Depot. Three nuggets wer© picked wp one day, weighing, in the aggregate, eight ounces. COMPROMISE-OVER A WRECK. PERTH, February 12. The owners of the City of York, the barque' wrecked at Rottnest, obtained damages sonre time back against tUe Government-, the kes of the vessel being attributed to misleading lighte. The Government appealed to the Privy Council, but has now compromised by paying £5000 damages acd costs. THE CARRIAGE OF BUTTER. (Received February 13ih, 1.6 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 12. At the recent Inter-State Dairy Conference it V\.; left to the several States to make a test of the best temperature for the carriage of butter. The testa of the New South Wales experts show that on an average consignments of butter kept at a temperature of 22 degree* Fahrenheit and under, were better at the end of six weeks than those at from 32 to 35 degrees. The difference, worked out, shows a gain of about two shillings a hundredweight in value in England. Pasteurised butter kept as well at 32 as at 22 degrees. THE PLAGUE IN QUEENSLAND.
