EDNA LYALL.
LONDON, F<*ruary 9. Tho death is announced of Edna Lyall, the. well-known lady novelist, [Edna Lyall, whose real name was Ada Ellen Baviy, was born tit Brighton, her father being a barrister, who died when she was eleven. Three years later sho lost- her mother. A thoughtful, studious child, she, at the age of ten, had already written some stories. Shortly after leaving school she wrote her first book, "Won by Waiting,' , which deals with home life in England and France. "'Donovan" was her second book, and was written at intervals during unrce years. This was followed by "We Two," "In the Golden Days," "Knight Errant," "A Hardy Norseman." The shilling book published in 1887, and called the biography of a 61ander," wae written in consequence of a disagreeable incident. On returning from one of her Norwegian tours she was assailed by persistant reports that she was in- a, lunatic asylum, and on making enquiries she found that a woman had been going about stating that ehe was Edna Lyall, and li*d been deceiving people. "Derrick Vaughan•' contains a record of some of her own early literary trials. In 1889 sue suneral from rheumatism, and fever, and for a very long time was unable to write afr all. In 1901 she •wrote "In Spite of All." She wae a niece of the Rev. E. Bayly, a former vicar of St. John's, Latimer equore.]
