The consignment of etud cheep imported by Mr J. E. Davonporfc from Ungland were offered for sale by Messrs Pyne and Co., at their wool stores, Cashel street, yesterday, when there was a large attendance of flockmastera. Mr A. Boyle officiated ac salesman. There wa« a good demand for Southdowm, and come of the Shropshire rams flold very well, but Shropshire ewes were evidently not required, aa the province ie now weil Bupplied with ewes of this breed. The English Leicester rams sold (satisfactorily, as also did the Ryel&ud rams and ewes, and this breed, which is new to tbe colony, ia likely to be given a good trial for fat lamb and mutton producing purposes. The ewea were, all either in lamb or had lambs at foot, and the lambs were given in at the sole. The sale opened with the Southdown rams, and the firet one put up was a dual championship winner, bred by the lato Colonel Harry McCaimont. Starting at 50gs, the cheep was rapidly run up in bga bide to 95gs; Mr Jas. Johns then came in at and Mr F. C. Murray put in another bid of sge ou behalf of Mr G. E. Rhodes, who became the purchaser at 105gs. Other name made 35gs to itige, the latter price being paid by Mr Geo. Gould, for one of Mr J. 3,. Oleman'e breeding, and two were passed in at 25gs. The first pair of Southdown ewes, of the Duke of Richmond's breeding made 26 guineas each, the buyer being Mr W. F. M. Buckkv, and Mr Geo. Mcßae, of Asbburton, who is starting a Southdown flock, got several lote, including a ewe and lamb bred by the la.be Colonel McCalmovt, for which he paid 40gs. Cooper and Nejjhew, winner at the Royal show- at Carlisle, and winner of the Moneell Memorial Cup at the tonropshire and West Midland chow. This ram was sold at auction in. England for 150gs, but he did not meet with favour from our local breeders, and failed to'elicit more than a starting bid of 50gs, at which he was passed in. Another ram from the same flock, whose sire was Shenstune Squire, a compact and well-woolled sheep, brought the top price for. this breed. Starting at 20gs, he was spiritedly run up in 6g bide to 75ge, and then in single guinea bids to 92gs, at which figure Sir Geo. Clifford became the purchaser. Four other Shropshire ramfl made 32ge, 29ge, 25gs, and 21 gs respectively. All the Shropshire ewes were passed in. The English Leicester ram Royal Oarliele, bred by Mr Geo. Harrieon, which was firet prize winner at the Royal show at Carlisle, and first at the great Yorkshire show at Leeds, was etarted out at 60gs, and by sga etagee readied 95ge, and fell to the bid of Mr J. B. Reid. Anothei ram of Mr Harriaon'a breeding, which was not looking 'his best, was bought by Mr M. J. Dixon at 43gs. The most lively competition of the .day was for the English Leicester ram bred by Mr E. F. Jordan, a nice low-eet cheep, which opened at 30ge, and after 55gs had been reached single guinea bids* come fast in succession from Messrs F. C. Murray (Lincoln), Mr Birch (Hawke'e Bay), and Mcesre R. ami J. Reid (Darfield). Mr Murray stayed the longest, aa>d got the ram at 85gs. The Ryelands were competed for by Mr W. P. Kellock, of Maronan, Aehburton, wbo was the first to import the breed to the colony, and has already proved their value for crossing purpoeee for wool and producing fat lambs, and Mr 0. E. Calcutt, wteo wee acting on behalf of Mr A. Macfarlane, of Achray. The latter was not to be denied, and secured Uie ram bred by Mr W. T.
