PRESENTATION TO MR D. REESE.
At the afternoon tea adjournment at the cricket match yesterday, a presentation was made to Mr D. Reese, in recognition of the fine innings he played against the Englishmen on Saturday. Mr A. J£. G. Rhodes, the President of the Canterbury Cricket Association, said they had all watched Mr Reese's batting on Saturday with very considerable, pleasure, and his friends hod decided to recognise it by making Mr Reese a present. He was sure a prize was never more richly deserved, and .Mr Reesp might well be proud of having been the first in New Zealand to score a century against the Englishmen. He was glad to announce that the difficulties that had stood in the way of Mr Reese staving here to take part in the test match - had been removed, and he sincerely hoped the New Zealand team would have the benefit of his services. He then asked Mrs Rhodes to make the presentatation. Mrs Rhodes handed to the recipient the parse of sovereign* that had been subscribed. Mr Reese suitably replied.
In connection with the above match, CUr B. Strothers offered yesterday morning to give a pair of leg guards to any Oonterbury bowler who took throe wicket* or more, and a bat to everj member of the
team whoscored 20 mm. Aβ will be seen from the score, Mr Frankieh wins the pads, whi!*t Messrs Pearce, D. Reese and CaUaway have each earned a bat.
