CORRESPONDENCE.

HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION. TO THS EDITOR OJ , THE MIESS.

Sir,—The Canterbury Chamber of Commorce have the privilege of putting two of 113; members on the Harbour Board. As it is a diatinct privilege for such a comparatively small body to be allowed to ekct such a proportion- on so important a board, one would have thought tirat every effort would have been made to put the largest possible number of member* in a position to be able to vote. Almost the contrary seenifl to be the case, as but seventy-seven members out of a total of one hundred iind thirty-two have qualified', by paying their subscription." No reasonable effort seems to have been made to warn members of their position, wiich seems the more reprehensible as two of the Committee have been nominated for the seats. It is to be horied that thos& who are ab!e to do so will record their votes. The Chamber is in none too good odour with fhe Government, aad if the election on Monday is a fiasco the Chamber may lose the above privilege __ Yours, etc., MEMBER.
