SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
A.t a meeting of the Executive of the School Committees' Association, the President (Mr J. H. Jones) was in tlie chair. After the inward and outward correspondence had been disposed of, Mr J. R. Wilkinson, M.A., read a paper on his scheme of technical education, and explained and answeied questions as he proceeded.v At the close of his paper (which has been published) an interesting discussion took place, members shoyving hearty approval of the scheme, and recommending it to the quarterly meeting of the Association for consideration. The action of the Board of Governors in not accepting the proposals of the Government in refeience to free secondary education, was discussed, and a motion was carried to refer the question to the next quarterly meeting, it ?seing deemed advisable to give the country delegates an opportunity of expressing their opinion. A delegate brought iip the question of the School CommiCtees' i.iection Act, 1891, advocating that members of the School Committees should be elected on the same basis as members of the Board of Education, fcr three year., and a certain number to retire even* year, as provided for in the Act, Part 'H.. Clause 15. The Exeeutirc was unanimous on the question, and decided to refer the matter to the quarterly meeting for its approval.
