THE PETITIONS TO THE GOVERNOR.

In accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Corporatione Act each Council desiring union shall within thirty days of the taking of the pctl on the question", present a petition to the Governor praying to be united to the other borough or boroughs uniting. The Caty Solicitor has drawn up the petition to be presented by the City Council, and .it will be submitted for approval at the meeting of the Council on Monday night. It is understood that the Mayor (Mr Henry F. Wigram) intends going to Weilingtou shortly in order to hasten matters, if possible, in connection with giving effect to the amalgamation of the city and boroughs. Special meetings of the St. Albans and Linwood Borough Councils will be hd.d to deal with the matter of the petitions from the respective councils, and the Sydenham Council will probably discuss t\ie question at their next ordinary meeting. An attempt is to be made to have amalgamation consummated by Mar. 31st so that the books of the different boroughs may be closed at the end of the financial year, and the bookkeeping in connection with Greater Christchurch oommenoe with the new financial year.
