In answer to the protest against the abolition of the Southland Sub-Volunteer District, Mr Hanan, M.H.R., has received a communication from. Mr Seddon, stating that the step was taken on thf recommendation of the Commandant, and it is useless having an expert if .we ignoie his recommendation*, particularly «when in the direction of economy, and when it ig very necessary that a reduction be made in the Defence expenditure.
