TO-DAYS POLL,

The vole of the electors of Sydenham on the Greater Christchurch proponal will be taken to-day. The poll nut only decides whether or cot Sydenham will join the city, but ftfeo if tbe boroughs of St. Albans and Linwood will amalgamate. Both the last-named boroughs have alteady decided to join contingent upon Sydenham joining, so that to-day's poll is fraught with much importance, not only t> Sydenham lesiderit.s, but, also to the other"contraitiiJij paities. The supporters of amalgamation appear confident of suettij, and are putting forth even- effort to ensure that there fhuil be a large polling «f the electors. Indeed the poll promise* t> bo a. record one, and Mr H. 0. Kll, JI.H.R., who was deputed by the Greater CtoUliurdi Committee to organise and conduct the .Sydenham campaign, ana those working with him hove made very complete Vehicles, with placards intimating that tlte poll on the question of Greater Christchurcli 3» being taken, will parude the borough to-day, as they did yesterday, ami in addition leaflets en the subject have bveii widely distributed. For the convenience of the workers, Mr Ell has arranged for vehic.es to be available between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. this evening. Two -vans will be stationed iuColombo street, between the intersection of Liehiield and fuam streets, to pick up voters; another will be found in Lower High street, at Ferry road corner, a fourth will ba at the Clarence road exit Wj the Addingtim Workshops, a lifth at the front exit, and v sixtti ai the Christchuich railway station, to meet the live o'clock train. Thexe Vans will carry voters between 5 and 7 p.m.. and it is hoped that the bouseJioiUlers will take the opportunity of using them.

Io will be remembered that numbers o≤ voters in the city were unaware that the Provincial Council Chambers was a polling-place, though they went there, and, thinking they were in error, went to the City Council Chambers. St. Saviour's schoolroom, Queen and Haw Jon streets-Walt-ham Public Library building, Waltliam road. At'the Borough Council jxjlliiig booth Mr Foster (to whom th« leturning otlicer, Mr 0. Al'.hfon, has <lepute«t his duties) will be in oharge; Mr Harvey will be in charge at the Oddfellow* , Hall; Mr Jacobs at the WaltJiam Public Library, and Mr Hall at St. Saviour's Schoolroom. The booth at St.. Saviour* Schoolroom -will be in tihe back portion of the old schoolroom, and the best ecwss will be from Hawdon street. The iiours of polling will be between 9 a.m and .7 p.m. There are 2779 names on tine district eketors' roll, and of these it is estimated that four hundred odd are oleo ratepayers in the city. Aβ is well known, ratepayers in other districts who are e'.so ratepayers in Bydenlwan can vote at to-day's poll. Those qualified to vote are raterayere and persons poswsssmg tie residential qualification* whose iHUute are on the district electors' roll, which is a distinct and separate roil from the roll for the election of members oi -Parliament.
