MELBOURNE, February 3.

Sir E*. Barton .states that hie knows nothing about New Zealand's proposal to obtain a training ship for boy*. He is ino'.ined to Otirk New Zealand is anxious to have the serviced of one of the gunboats which will cease to be attached to the Auxiliary Squadron if the new naval agreement comes into effect. The agieemenb makes no provision for a training iship for boys, so the fresh proposal is one that New Zealand is adopting on her own responsibility. It is not tt matter upon whioh the Federal Government could have anything to say.
