At the fortnightly meeting of the .Xew Brighton Uoroug-h Council, held on Monday night, tihere were present—The Mayor (Mr Geo. Mclntyre), and Councillors Kdwards, Bellamy, Foster, Walker, Wyatt, and Clanville. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Winny and Clayton. The Town Clerk's report was reudj and showed that the receipts since last meeting had been £1 8s Bd. and the debit balance at the Bank was £257 19s Bd. The Clerk also reported that in company with the Chairman of tihe Works Committee, he had inspected liowhill road, and had formed an estimaite of the cost of funning the road on the north side of the tram line, to o width of 14ft, and claying and met-alling same, together with the cost of forming im approacu from tl* oeach. After discussion it IVaa decided to consider the report at a future meeting of the Council. The Works Committed reported that at the suggestion of the Town Clerk it would recommend that the fender boards to the channels should be pulled out. aud used again. The foreman agreed with the proposal, ! and considered it would be a paving oi at least 10s per chain. The Finance Committee presented accounts amounting to £16 45,5 d. which were passed for payment. A deputation of residents waited on the Council and asked that an application rhould be made to the Chief Postmaster at Christohureh to have some letter boxes placed at the local Post Office. The Counc-il unanimously decided to accede to tJie request of the deputation, and it was decided that the Council should apply for a box for it* own use. It was decided to accept Messrs Andrewe and Co.'s tender for the supply of broken metal for the concrete channelling.
