CANTERBURY v ENGLISH ELEVEN.

The following notes about tie members of Lord Hawked team to play Canterbury on February 6th, 7th, and 9th may be of interest: — P. F. Warner, captain of-the team, 29 wars of age, -was captain of the Rugby Eleven, and afterwards in the Oxford 'Varsity team. At the present time he ie one of the best 'batsmen in having played for Middlesei for several seaeons. ■'>■'■. T. L. Taylor plays for Yorkshire, and during the last two seasons has scored very consistently in.county cricket. 45He played for Cambridge, and last year in one oi the teat matches against Australia. Age 24. C J. Burnup is one of the best batsmen in the Kent Eleven,, having scored over 2000 rums laslfc season in first-class cricket. He i« a very brillittnit field, and good change, bowler. Age 27. B. J. T. Bosanquet played for Oxford for three years, but has latterly represented Middlesex. He is a> punishing batsman, who. hits very hard ell round the wicket. A good right-hand bowler, either fast or slow, breaks from'off or leg. Age F. L. Fane played for Oxford. He is now one of the mainstays of Essex County team, being a patient bat and splendid field. Age 27. A. E. Leatham, the veteran of the team, wrho ie largely responsible for the present tour, formerly represented both Cambridge and Gloucestershire. A brilliant field. Age 43. ~ P. R. Johnson is a native of this colony, having been born in Wellington in 1880. He has played for Eton and Cambridge. A free batsman and feet right-hand bowler. E. M. Dowson played far Harrow for four years, and afterwards for Cambridge. He is now a member of the Surrey team, for which he has done good service with the bat, besides being a useful clow lefthand bowler. Age 22. '

A. D. Whatman learnt the - game a.t Eton and Cambridge and. is the wicketkeeper of the team. A good bat. J. Stanning played for Cambridge three years ago, and now represents Lancashire. Is a forcing bat, and a very cafe field. J. G. Thompson, one of the two professional members of the team, and a mainstay of the Northamptonshire County team, as a bowler. He also plays for the M.C.C, and las* summer put up two good performances fo r them against the Australians, namely, four wickete for 33 rune, and five wickets for 68 runs. Bowie fast, with good off break. A good bat. S. Hargreave, the Warwickshire professional, is a left-hand clow bowler, and hae been very useful ito his county during the last two seasons, taking 87 wicketij in 1901 and 115 wickets last year. He is a fair bat.
