AUCKLAND NOTES.
(special to "the press.") AUCKLAND, January 28. The recent announcement of a reduction •in the price of flour has raised the question as to whether the bakers are likely to reduce the price of biead , . A number of master 'bakers were interviewed by a representative of tlie "Herald," who gathered that there is no intention to make any reduction unless flour falls to a much lower figure than just receded. In one case £10 or £10 10s a ton was mentioned as the probable stage in the fall of flour, at which a reduction in the price of the staff of Hfe might be decided upon. The bakers claim that no alteration was made by tHem as the result of the last rise in the price of flour, and that therefore no reduction can be expected at the present stage, flour having so iar dropped only 10s a, ton. In conversation with a representative of the " Herald," a prominent fruit dealer stated that fruit has been considerably later in coming forward this seaavri than formerly. The unfavourable weather affected many of the orchards to a great extent. t'ery .heavy shipments of all classes of local fruite are being sent south, and up -to last week very satisfactory values have been znade in Wellington and other southern ports, in many cases nearly double those realised in the Auckland markets. The quantities now going forward, however, are tending to glut the Wellington market further than our own.
