CRICKET MATTERS.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE PKESS. Sir, —I read with interest "Old Cricketer's" letter which appeared on Wednesday morning, and I would recommend that he be requested to act as selector of our representative team, as he evidently knows a great dieal more than Mr Wheat Ley, although frhaib gentkman has, by sheer chance of course, succeeded in picking tiams to beat both Qtago and Wellington this year. I quite agree with "OH Cricketer" that a team of colts would make a sorry display, but I venture to say that an eleven of "Has beens" would easily excel! the colts in reducing the price of ducks' eggu at Lancaster Pork. Referring to our Nestor's remarks re bowlers, I would like to know why he omits the name of S. Frankish, one of our very best trundlers, if not the best; does he consider him too young and nervous after representing us, and well too, for ten years or more, -while Howell has only one" or two performances to recommend him, and judging by his laboured style would rapid* y tire if k*jpt on for any length of time. In conclusion, I can only say that I ma prepared! to ■wager "Old Cricketer" a new hat that Canterbury will make a better stand than any other province against Lord Hawke's eleven. —Yours etc., 20th CENTURY CRICKETER.
