The City Council met last night. Prosent —The Mayor (Mr Henry P. Wigraai), and Councillors J. X. Smith, G. Payling. H 14. SoreiKsn. C. D. Morris R. M. -uuwlonald, <!. Simpson, J. M. Taylor, Hy. Wood. J. Clarke, W. E. .Samuels." and C. M. Gray.
TJie financial statement allowed—Dr. balance £4257 13s stl. last year £3088; balance last meeting £7835 3s 6d, aofconnttt presented far payment £603 18s lid, receipts since last meeting £4213 9«. Of the 1902-3 rates, amounting to £19,55S O: 13d. tiiere hud bew» collected £14,048 12s Id. The accounts were passed for .payment.
The Mayor reported regarding the (Imputation to the Hon. Hall-Jone* , , re the visit of the ?lectrit;d expi'it to report on the Wainuikariri scheme, and of the visit to the proposed works in connection with the sciu-me. His Wyrshi-p also reported je Greater Christehurch and the Half-hoii-dav Conference.
A letter from Mr F. Wlmmore. with reference -l> connecting his *Ira.in with the Council's drain on the North Avon road, was referred to the Works Committee.
Mr R. 'H. Wood wrote claiming £45 16s in respect to an accident, the alleged cuu;e of which was a. hole in the pavement in the viuinitv of Messrs WardeJl Bios., prtoiiises. The matter was referred to the Bj--!uws Committee.
The Health Officer certified that certain premises on the. East belt, were unfit for human habitation, and i« was decided tlut thy usual steps be taken in tlie matter.
Ths< By-laws Committed recommended that tlie following .permits be granted:—
Coffee stalls. Mesdanies English Thomas and Kosina Thomas ; ice cream stalls. A. Borlum, J. J.tckie, and C. Abraham.
