First place in these is taken by the New Zealand Bowling Association's Tournnament at Christchuivh, of which snapshots of play appear, as well as a couple of line pic-turfs of the Christchurch Club's green on Ladies' day. Equal attention is given to the North Island Bowling Association's Tournament at Palmerston 'North, of which some striking views an; given The Wellington Anniversary is dealt with in pictures of tho Regatta and the Summefleeting of tlie Wellington Racing Club at the Hutt Park, while the Canterbury Fixe Brigades' Demonstration, in which the most -attractive feature was a smart exhibition of drill by a ladies' team, furnishes three pages of pictures. The importation of stud stock into the colony is always of interest, and this week there are excellent pictures of the wtud sheep and cattle recently imported by Mr Davenport. The Pacific Cable Station at- Funning Island forms another of the illustrated subjects. Among the stories published is a very remarkable one of boxing, by Sir Conan Doyle. In the Farmer there is an editorial note on North and South Island sheep, based on the evidence given before the Canmittee of the Houas of Representatives on the frozen meat trade. Another topic discussed is the Australian harvest, and the probable yields.' Produce notes from London, Fanners' Union news, reports from country correspondents', Farm Topics, and Stock Notes, make up a readable num her. In the "Referee" the leading article deals with the stipendiary steward question, ii much-debated subject just imw. Editorial reference is made to the Summer Meeting of- the Wellington Racing Club, tli': growth of the New Zealand Gun Club Association, and the career of the late Cclonel 'Harry McCalrnont, M.P. 'liie raco jneetings of the past week are fully reviewed, and the usual adequate attention v given to future pathericp.s. Bowlers will b? interested in a, complete report of tha New Zealand Bon-ling- Association's Tournament, which Was held* last week in Chrwtchurcii. Tho special representative of tha paper at the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Championship Meeting «t. Nelsron continues his iSeries of articles dealing with the play at that gathering. Reports of the matches played by Lord Hawkes team form a special feature of the cricket, columns, and in all other department* the paper maintains its usual high standard.
