For last -week, \rrites our northern district correspondent, the weather was such as to gladden the farmers anxious to see their crops ripen. Yesterday rain commenced at 5 a.m., and this would serve as a, check, but the wind was fortunately coos!, and this served to allay apprehension. All the crops have "been coining on to harvest in a satisfactory manner The Tain has freshened grass lands and improved the red clover, which is now blooming, and the humble bees have been noticed among it for a, week past. The various threshing machines of the district have taken up their stations, and it was expected that to-day a few of the cut and stooked crops of oats would ha«ve been ready, but the rain will delay matters a day or two. A Dunedin telegram states that after eigjht days' fine summer weather, which was bringing on the crops famously, rain in at 6 o'clock on Saturday night, and wii« still falling yesterday evening. The weather at Wanganui for some days has been very hot, but yeeberd&y, according to a telegram, there was a heavy dewnpour and a- thunderstorm, lasting about two hours. The weather then cleared up again. * The weather, which has been fine at Westport for the past fortnight, hae Broken again.
