(TBF.SS ASSOCIATION TKLECRAMS.) INYKRCARGILL. January 24. A fire ■occurred about 5 p.m. in the wooden portion of the block known as Neil's, in Dee street, ;i.r.d destroyed most <.i the stock of (_'. Kiernan, upholsterer, and also damaged the premises and stock of Burrell. photographer, and of Bernstnn, tailor. Kiernau hud just brought in some j flax fibre, whdeh^,ha-d been drying in the yard. This ho stored under the stairs, and returned to his wort in the top flat. He- immediately saw flames envelop the stairs, and going down saw the flax ablaze. He got mo«t of it outside, but the walls were afirt. and the, place was eventually gutted. His stock was insured for £20*0 in the N«w Zealand Office, and was valued at £500. The furniture was wonh about £40. and was saved. Kiernan does not smoke in his workshop, and cannot account for the lire. No other insurance can • * ascertained. Neil's herbalist's uliop escaped injury. DUNEDrN, January 25. A fire broke out shortly alter midnight in Mr F. A. Hooper's furniture warehouse and factory, in the Octagon. The buildings were almost completely gutted, the fire having a good hold before an alarm was given. The stock wa* valued at about £2000, and was insured for £1850. distributed us iollows:—Manchester £600, Commercial Union £000. New Zealand £250, Alliance £450, .South Brit:.-h £250.
