ANNUAL TOURNAMENT

The finals in the Rink Tournament, the Doubles, and the Consolation Rinks were played off yesterday, and attracted a. goodly number of interested spectators. Iα the Sink Tournament Victoria (Brackenridge) met Dunedin (McLaren) for .first and eeoond _piace, and Dunedin (Sinclair) met Green Island (Buchanan) for third prize. Iα tine Doubles Se'ager and Tisch met their club mates, Louisson and Bishop, for third place, and Cburcinrard a»d Webb met Simmers and Rowley for first and eeoond prizes. Bell, who had played well for his Wellington rink in the final of tbe Championship, ibet Qaw, of Timaru, in the final of tne Hiagle Championship, and an interesting gome ensued, resulting in another victory for the northerners. Wellington won tn* Championship Rink Tournament, tne Doitbke, and the Singles.

The work done by Mr Stewart, the lonorary secretary, is beyond praise. Only :hose who have attempted to run a tournament know the many pitfalls and troubles which beset the path of the secretary. Mr Stewart has managed the tournament of the present year very efficiently, assisted by Mr Hopcroft, who has done good service. The weather has been splendid throughout, and credit is due to the caretaker of the Christchurch green for the admirable state in which he got it, playing to the last without the least sign of wear. *The following were the results of the play yesterday: — CHAMPION RINKS. Final. Dunedin: J. Barnea, J. C. Short, J. G. Bentley, W. McLaren (»kip), 20. Victoria: John Brackenridge. F. J. Gooder, N. Bell, Jaa. Brackenridge (skip), 27. At seven heads the *corea were—Dunedin 9, Victoria 9. At fourteen heads—Dunedin 13, Victoria 17. Victoria (Brackenridge) take* the fir*t prize and Dunedin (McLaren) second. At the fifteenth head the scores stood 17 aach. On the aixteeenth head Dunedin burst the head, McLaren driving the jack out of bounda. At the next, Gooder (Wellington) followed suit. On the following head, Short (Dunedin) led one cloae to the jack, but Goodar rested him out and acored McLaren, with his last bowl, lying aecond. ScoresWellington 18, Dunedin 17. At the seventeenth Short had a toucher on the jack, hia opponent not being up. Bentley (Dunedin), with his second bowl, wa* aecond. Brackenridga'* first bowl was narrow, and not up, and McLaren alto was short Brackenridg. and McLaren were both short on their second Bowl. Score—Eighteen all. On the eighteenth head, when the skips came to play, the bowl* were in a group round the jack. Brackenridg. with hi. first bowl, trailed the. jack amongst hi* own bowls, and laid fine; McLaren, with bis first bowl, making no alteration. Brackenridge sooted another with hi* last bowl. Score*—Wellington 26, Dunedin 30. The nineteenth head was rather wide, but Dunedin had one in when the third player "had finished. Brackenridge, however, with hia first bowl, wa. not up; McLaren being also short. Brackenridge'. aecond bowl wa* narrow and wide. McLaren, with his last bowl, trailed the jack to the edge of the ditch, and acored two. Scores—Wellington 24, Dunedin 20. In the twentieth, Barnes (Dunedin) played a good bowl, but the leader cf W.llington lay quite cloae to the jack. The aecond players did not alter tho position. Bentley 'Dunedin), with his first bowl, was rather wide and strong. Bell (Wellington) lying aecond. Bentley drove, and missed. Bell played a ball only half way up the rink as a bogle. McLaren drove with hia first bowl, and missed, and Brackenridge was not up. McLaren «f»m drove scattering the bowls, but leaving Wellington two in. Score*— Wellington 26, Dunedin 20. In the last head as* first and second players wen vary wide,

and the Wellington third player w»s »ls° wld *- Bentley (Dunedin. got close up to the J*'*Bell (Wellington) wae strong and wide, ana Bentley (Dunedin) again ley with his last bowl, Dunedin lying four when the skips went UP to play. Brackenridge, with his first bowl, upset the position by taking the shot. McLaren made a half drive, and went into the ditch, Brackemidge being short with his second bowl. McLaren's last ball v.as a drive straight into the ditch, missing everything. Final score—Wellington 27, Dunedin 20. Green Island: W. McDonald, J. Aitciuson. A. Young. D. Buchanan (skip). 17. Dunedin: A. J. Barth, J. Johnson, W. Burcaide, M. Sinclair (skip). 21. Dunedin (Sinclair) takes third prize. Green Island followed- by scoring singles at the fourth, fifth and sixth heads respectively. At the seventh head Dunedin scored a single, and Green Island oh the eighth got in a couple. Dunedin scored at the ninth, tenth, and eleventh heads, getting a single, two. and a single. At the twelfth and thirteenth heads Green Island scored a single at each. Dunedm scored at the fourteenth and fifteenth, getting three at each. At the sixteenth head Green Island got in a single, and at the seventeenth and eighteenth Dunedin obtained a.single and three. At the nineteenth and twentieth Green Island scored four and two, and on the twenty-first head Dunedin got a single. Scores —Dunedin 21, Green Island 17. CHAMPION DOUBLES. Final. Webb and Churchward (Thorndon) 30, beat Simmers and Rowley (Timaru) 11. Webb and Churchward take finrt prize in the Doubles, and Simmere and Rowley the At 'seven heads Rowley and Simmers (Timaru; were 3, Churchward and Webb (Thorndon) 11. At fourteen, Rowley and Simmers were 9, Churchward and Webb 19. At the first bead Thorudon scored three, Timaru getting one in on the second head. At the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth heads Thorndon scored two singles and two threes, T inl '»™ obtaining two singles at the seventh and eighth heads. On the ninth Xhorndon scored five, and the Timaru got one on the tenth, two on the eleventh, and one on the twelfth. At the thirteenth Thorndon again ecored three, Timaru getting in a single on the fourteenth head. Then Thorndon scored five on the fifteenth, two on the sixteenth, and three on the seventeenth. On the eighteenth head Timaru scored a single, and on the nineteenth Thorndon also got a single. At the twentieth head Timaru made a single, and the game closed with Thorndon 30, Timaru 11. Louisson and Bishop (21) beat Tisch and Seager (13) and won third prize. At seven heads Tisch and Seager were 2 and Bishop and Louisson 5. At fourteen the scores were Tisoh and Seager 9, Bishop and Louisson

13. At the first head Bishop and Seager got one, and also on the second head. At the third Bishop again scored a single, Seager getting one on the fourth. Bishop at the fifth and sixth scored a single and two, and Seager got a couolc of singles. At the seventh and eighth Bishop scored for the next four heads, getting a four and three single*. At the thirteenth head Seager secured a single, and Bishop a single and three at the fourteenth and fifteenth heads. At the sixteenth head Seager scored a single. Bishop secured a couple of two* at the seventeenth and eighteenth heads, and at the nineteenth tieager got a single. A single by Bishop at the twentieth head, and a single by Seager at the twenty-first concluded the game. Scores —Bishop and Louiason 21, Tisch and Seager 13. CHAMPION SINGLES. Final. Bell (Wellington) 18 beat Gow (Timaru) 16. Bell led off in the first head with three. The second.head was bunt, Bell being.two near the jack. Gow drove, and took the jack out of bounds. On the second head being played Bell acored one, and in the third head three, making a total of seven to Bell, and love to Gow. On the fourth head Gow scored a single, which was followed on the fifth with three for Bell. X>n the sixth head Gow acored one, and rfell got a aingle on the seventh head. Gow scored three on the eighth head. He also got two single on the ninth and tenth heads, and four on the eleventh, making the score at the eleventh head eleven ail. On the twelfth head Bell scored a single, and on the thirteenth and fourteenth heads Gow ■cred singles, making the score at the fourteenth head Gow 13, Bell 12. At the fifteenth head Gow scored a single, and on the sixteenth Bell got in three. At the seventeenth and eighteenth heads Gow scored two singles. At the nineteenth head Gow had four in when Bell, with his last bowl, came round the head and took the shot, scoring one. At the twentieth head Gow got in a. single by excellent play. On the twenty-first head Bell got a bowl up against the jack. Gow, with his last bowl, played on to the ball, and got it out, but on a measure for shot Bell got the preference. Final score—Bell 18, Gow 16. CONSOLATION RINK. Oamaru: D. Patterson, Dr. Don, Ben. Molldson, and J. Martin (skip), 19. Kahuna: R. W. Clarkson, H. Smeaton, C._.T. Patterson, T. Sneddon (skip), 17. seven heads Oamaru (Martin) was 6, and Kahuna (Sneddon) 6. At fourteen Sneddon was 10, Martin 1». Oamaru (Martin) won the first prize in the Consolation ** At the first head Oamaru got a single, which was followed at the second head by three for Kaituna. A single and two for Oamaru followed at the third and fourth heada, and then Kaituna got in a single and two at the fifth and sixth, Oamaru responding with two at the seventh. At the eighth Kaituna acored another couple, and at the ninth Oamaru also got two in. At the tenth Kaituna scored a single, and then Oamaru came with three, two, and one at the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth heada. At the fourteenth head Oamaru scored a single, and at the fifteenth head Kaituna got in a coupTe. Oamaru responded on the sixteenth with a single, and then Kaituna got in a couple. Two singles and a three for Oamaru followed" at the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth head, and at the twenty-first Kaituna got two in. Scores—Oamaru 19, Kaituna 17. The following shows the winners of the prizes:— Rink Tournament, first prize, gold medals value £2 10s each (presented by Mr W. Jacques, .president) for each member of the rink and certificate—Won by Victoria (Wellington), skip J. Brackenridge. Second prize, gold medals value £1 10s each with certificate— Won by Dunedin, W. McLaren skip. Champion Doubles, first prize, trophy value £3 10s to each player—Churchward and Wast (Thorndon). Second prize, trophy value £1 10a to each player—Simmons and Rowley (Timaru). Third prize—Louisson and Bishop (Christchurch).
