A VICTORY FOR AMALGAMATION. It was at five minutes pest seven o'clock that tie Mayor of ojixistohurch. {Mr Henry F. Wigram) announced from t&e southern door of uoe Provincial Council Chambers the result of the poll on tbe Greater Ghriatchureh proposals to the- crowd, which was awaiting the result. His aooouncemenfc of the figures vm received! with applause and cueera. The Mayor, said Toat it was a small poll, but the majority was overwhelming. If amalgamation did not now become an accomplished fact it -would sot be long before it did so. Cheers were called for the Mayor, and were heartily given. Speaking at a later period from the same place, just prior to the announcement of tbe Tramways Board election, the Mayor said) that St. Albans bad voted two :o one in favour of amalgamation, Linwood had voted! lour to one, and the city had voted fourteen to one. (Applause.) He had (to congratulate the city upon the forward step ft had taken, and dbo the i ruburoan boroughs. He was quite sure that the boroughs would gain, more than the city by amalgamation. He mentioned that whilst tbe was at th« City Council Chambers receiving the tesoks of the various polls, the first $er*on to congratulate him on the remit of the voting wee the Maror of Sydenham.
