(SPECIAL TO "THE PBESS."') DUNEDIN, January 22. The Education Board to-day recorded its entire sympathy with the High Schools' Board in its objections to the scheme of regulations promulgated by the Education Department re secondary education, insofar as it does not freely provide for all pupils of primary echoo'h who pass standard sir. The Board further agreed to call the Minister's attention to the urgent need of definite and efficient provision being made for pupils in the town schools. The Board points out that the restriction of free education at secondary schools of this province to pupils of fourteen years does not meet the requirements of this district, and ia unjust to pupils under the Board, inasmuch as (1) the Board will stall b© required to provide for the education of pupils over fourteen years of age, axfd carry on rivals to the High Schools, thus tending to defeat the success of the Government's offer to Schools , Board; (2) the Government have placed no such restriction ©f age oa papile attending the district high schools, and it is unjust to provide free secondary education for pupils .■n the country and debar children in the city from similar advantages, afe a large proportion of the children in Dunedin and Oamaxu, and a great majority of most desirable country pupile, are deluded by the age limit of fourteen years. The illuminated address, to be presented to the Premier by the Mayor and Councillors, has now been signed. It is an artistic piece of illumination in book form. The weather is now perfect in the town and country. It is the first, epell of summer we have had this season. It is stated that Mr S. G. Smith, formerly butcher here, will be one of the experts to l» sent Home by the Government to supervise the distribution of New. Zealand meat. The condition of some of the forecastles of vessels visiting the port not being deemed satisfactory, the Health Department intends inspecting ihem in . future.
