Mr Buchanan, the Chairman of the Heat Export Company, M aot fihink there would be any great quantity of meat available from any of the freezing companies for the purposes of tie contract. They had aleo to consider wfaether jt trould be wdse to lose any patt of oor (bold on the London market, which must b* in fhe future, re in the past, the leading market for the class of meat wfcibh the colony produces. Mr Buchanan furtther pointed out that any Argentine meat which goes to South Africa i* withdrawn from competition agfcoaet vi in th« London mairkefc, etrd> it muet also ibe remembered that it will nofc be Tery long before South Africa is fully stocked, and able to gtifpply he* own want*. He remarked, in conclusion, thai the only condition under which New Zealand could secure the contract -would be th* War Office requiring meat of » quality which the Argentine admittedly cannot tttp'ply-
