AUCKLAND v TARANAKI.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELE-BAM.) HAWERA, January 21. The cricket match, -Auckland v Taranaki, was favoured by perfect cricketing weather. The home team'won the toss and elected to bat on a good wicket. Pratt settled down to work quickly, treating Barclay; with scant respect. When he had go* 18 he fell leg before to N. Lusk. Glasgow scored nine, and was caught by Hemus, Robertson did not break his "duck." MeCarthy, who was nearly run out at the start, played steadily for a while, and then opened out, putting 46 to his credit before falling to Lusk. Cole and Walters hit hard for their runs. The remainder did not do much. Auckland sent in R. B. Lusk and) Gleeson to bat to the bowling of McCarthy and Gudgeon. The pair made a good" start, scoring 48, when a separation was effected, Lusk playing on a ball from Elliott, who was now bowling instead of Cole. Lusk played nicely for 32, but was missed early in" the inning-. KaHender followed, but, after a boundary and two singles, succumbed to McCarthy. Mason, after a careful opening, put Elliott over the fence for five, and then got leg before

to McCarthy. The bowling ■was ohanged shortly after, Glasgow and Cole gokwr on. fhe former bowled Hemus, who had played nice cricket -for 29. N. B. Lusk opened with a five and ran up to 13, when he 'was cauzht. The.innings closed iot- 132. Taranaki's second inning- wa_ commenced by Pratt and Glasgow. Both opened carefully. The latter, after seven singles, was caught off N. B. Lusk. Gardner joined Pratt, and the runs camquickly, a separation not being effected until Pratt had pro on 63. Roberts©and Gardner continued to score freely, but eventually the former left with 43 opposite his name, being bowled by N. B. Lusk. McCarthy came next, and the play was a little" bit slower. Robert-on was finely caught on the boundary by Seccombe* after several lives. Gudgeon made two and was caught and bowled by Barclay.
