A GERMAN GUNBOATS MISHAP.
LONDON, January 20. Advices from Caracas state that the Panther was damaged and two G-rmans killed in the attempt to enter Lake Maracaibo, when of San Carlos returned the vessel's fire, forcing her to retreat. (Received January 21st, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, J__uary 20. The "Daily Express" states that the Panther's object was the capture of toe Venezuelan gunboat Miranda, which was concealed at M_rac_i-o. During an hour's conflict one hundred and twenty shots were exchanged between the fortress and .he Panther. Little injury was done to the fortress, but the Panther was considerably damaged. NEW YORK, January 20. American opinion is strongly condemnatory of the arrogance of the Gorman commanders on the eve of arbitration.
