MR WILLIAM WALES.

Amongst the death notices to-day is one referring to Mr William Wales, of Lyttelton, who died on Saturday night. Mr Wales was bom at Mauston, Kent, in 1835. He joined the Navy. as a bay on board H.M.S. Boscawen on September 9th, 1851. During , th« Crimean War he was on H.M.S. Algiers, and saw service in the Crimea and in the Baltic for which he received the Crimean, Baltic, and Turkisn medals. Hβ purchased his discharge on iUiiy 15th, 1865, when leading eeaman on H.M..S. Black Prince. His record during his whole service was "Very good." Nearly forty years ago lie landed at Dunedm, and after spending two yeasns on the Otago goldfields came to Lyttelton. For some years he traded to the Banks' Peninsula bays, and 1 on leaving the eea established a coal yard, where Messrs Anderson's foundry now is. Subsequently he became a carrier. The deceased gentleman was a member of the Loyal City Lodge of Oddfellows, and of the KUwinning Lodge ot Freemasons. Mr Wales was twice married, and leaves a widow, five eons and four daughters. Four of the eons aiyitwo of the daughters are married. To show their respect for an old manrof-war's man, the Lyttelton Naval Artillery will attend his funeral, which takes place this afternoon.
