TAYLOR v WALKER.
CONTEST FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP
(Received January 19th, 1.12 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 18. With a view to finally settling the question of supremacy between Major Taylor and Don Walker, the League of Wheelmen has arranged to run on Wednesday nigjat a series of three and one mile heats for a prize of £100. To make the tests thoroughly representative the League has invited nine of the beet Australia© racers, including Chalmers, to run in tiie qualifying beats on Monday, the winner of the final to' meet Walker on Wednesday night, and the one proving victorious to race Taylor for the championship. Satisfactory arrangements have been made by the Christehurch Cycling Club for a match between W. Martin and Ueo. Sutherland aii Lancaster Park next Saturday. The contract thae been signed by both riders, and the conditions are: —One mile uupaced, a twenty-mile motor-paced, and a five-mile mofcor-'paced pursuit race to decide in case of a tie. Martin will 'be paced by his French motor, while Sutherland will have <bhe assistance of Mr Speechley's Khaki motor tandem. in* club have also put on the programme a j half-mile and one-mile cash handicap, and a five-mjile motor bicycle handicap, in which Martin's motor will compete. En- j tries close for all events on Tuesday. The I matoi between Martin and Sutherland will be for a stake of £50 put up by the olub, and £25 each put up by the competitors. !
