The. practical demonstrations of glassblowing have been well attended during the present week by school children. The exhibitions will be continued every afternoon and evening. A paragraph in Thursday's issue stated that the Timurii eastern extension mols, was now cut 173 feet; it should have read 1750 feet. Experiments have been carried on • for some time for the purpose of utilising our vast assets embodied in waste sands, and it has fallen to the lot of a Canterbury gentleman, in the person of Mr E. J. Parrott, to secure, after much research and expense in England and the Continent, a solution of the problem. Mr Parrott has recently returned with samples of bricks manufactured from Canterbury sand and lime by the most improved modern process and apparatus, fnr which he has obtained protection in New Zealand. A company is in course of formation in Christchurch* to work Mr Parrott's patent, and we have seen samples of the bricks, which from their appearance amp'.y bear out the patentee's contention. These can be seen at the otfice of his agent. Mr C L. Kussell, 15da. Hertford street, Cbxis:church. 6
