RIFLE SHOOTING.

The annual competition for the No. 2 Mounted Rilies Battalion Flag was held at Culverden on Wednesday, the firing being supervised by Major Chulfey, battalion commander, and Lieut.-Adjutant Johnson. Amuri Mounted Rifles, under Captain Thomson; Cust, tinder Captain Mutton and Lieut. Atkinson; North Canterbury, under Licuts. Home and Mcintosh; and Kaikoura, under Captain Wood, competed. Owing to the busy season in the agricultural districts, the "North Canterbury Corps could not get a full team, and fired a man short. The disUuices were 200, 300, and 500 yards, seven shots at each; magazine firing at the last range; the seven shots to be discharged within 45 seconds. Following are the results: —Amuri, 697 points; North Canterbury, 694; Cust, 642; Ka'koura, 618. Amuri has won the flag two years in succession.

NORTH OTAGO ASSOCIATION. (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TEJ.EGBAM.) OAMARU, January 14. The annual prize-firing of the North Ocago'Rifle Association commenced to-day in fine weather, but a variable light. Competitors were pivs-ait from North Ota go, Dunedin, Taie-ri, and Kaitangata. The principal prize-winners were:—President's Match, seven shots at 200 and SCOyds—Corporal McLaren (Palmeiston). first, 67; Sergeant Smith (Oamaru), second, 67; Private Leslie (Oamaru), third, 64. No. 2 Match, 300 and 600 yds, seven shots —T. M. Smith (Oamaru), first, 63; Corporal Smaill (Kaitangata), second. 61; Sergeant Fleming (Palm erst on), thiid, 61. The leading scores are:—T. M. Smith 127, Sergeant McKenzie 125, Corporal Smaill 123, Privatd McLaren 122, and Bugler Smith 121. January 15. The following are the results of to-day's shooting at the meeting of the North Otago Rifle Association: —No. 5 'Match, disappearing target, range 200yds—Sergeant Miller (Palmerston. 37. .Mr Nimmo (Oamaru) 35, second; Private Anderson (Kaitangata) 55, third. No. 4 Match,"'7 shots, 600 and 800 yds- - Little (Ngapara) 66, first; Private Anderson (Kaitangata) 62, second: Corporal Smaill (Kaitangata) 61, third. Aggregate March—Sergeant MrKenzie (Oamaru), 218; Corporal Smaill, 216; Bugler Smith, 210. Teams Match—Oamaru Rifles 66, Palmerston Rifles 44, Queen's Rifles 42. No. 6 Match, 7 shots at 200 yds— Trooper Manly 34, Private Bennett 52, Lieutenant Nichol 32. Before the shooting finished in the evening a gale from the south sprang up, nuking good shooting an impossibility.
