TIMARU CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
At a meeting of the Timaru. Caledonian Society, the financial position was shown to be exceedingly satisfactory, the, profit from the late gathering being £220. A suggestion, that a bye meeting be held was favourably discussed, and it was decided to endeavour to secure the visit of Major Taylor during his New Zealand tour. A jetter signed by 27 runners at the late, gathering was received, stating that they would not compete at any future meetings it the present handicapper were retained. The directors protested against such a letter, and decided to simply "receive." It is said to have been prompted by a trainer and non-competitor. It was decided to spend an additional £30 on top-dressing the cycling track.
