TEMUKA.
The adjourned meeting of the Temuka ' Borough Council was h.id on Wednesday night. Present—Crs. T. Buxton, DeputyMayor (in the chair), Henry, Frew, Story, Holwell, and Carr. A special meeting was, held to deal with the matter of the Mayor's (Major Hayhuist's) resignation. After considerable discussion the resignation was accepted with regret, and Cr. Buxton was then elected to fill the Mayoral chair for the remainder of the term. At a second special meeting Thursday was decided upon a& the weekly half-holiday for shops witn.r. the borough of Temuka. At the 01 dinar, meeting several questions of importance to the borough were considered. It was agreed to hold over the matter of compulsory house connections with the sewer until a fortnight later, when a special meeting will be held to deal with the subject, in. engineers are to be instructed in the interval to prepare plans and specifications, etc. The question of procuring broken metal in place of shingle for the stieets was held over pending further inquiries. The Town Clerk was appointed treasurer, vice Major Hayhurst resigned. The overseer in his report stated that the rates had come in fairly well during the past mont_i, but there is still a considerable amount outstandins, totalling, with the 10 per cent, penalty, £103 17"! 3d, the rents outstanding total £19 7s. The visit of his Excellency the Governor next week, on the occasion ot the garden party in aid of the Veterans Home scheme, was consid-red, and th-= Mayor and Crs. Rainbow, Frew, and Lea were appointed a sub-committee to eonsde what steps should be taken to welcome, obehalf of the borough, Lord Ranfurly p.ua party.
