EXCURSION RAILWAY FARES.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) DUXEDIN, January 13. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones communicated to Sir J. G. Ward the request of the deputation at Christchurch re excursion fares on the occasion of the visit of Lord Hawked team. The Minister for Kailways has given instructions that at all the centres where the visiting cricketers play excursion rates are to be announced on the railways. The cricket match between the literary staffs of the "Lyttelton Times" and "Press" was continued yesterday, and was left ir. an interesting stage. With two wickets to fail the "Times" team resumed their first innings, adding 4 runs, and making their total 135 (East 10). The "Press" team, mainly through, the splendid batting of Barge, who scored 105 with only one chance, compiled 184 in their second innings, other batsmen to reach double figures being Fanning 29, and Hamber 28. With 14b to get to win, the "Times" team commenced th-ir second innings, and at the call of tims had madia 41 for three wickets (Reeves 16 and King not out 13). Atack again bowled best for the "Times," and Fanning was the most successful with the ball for the "Press" team.
