For having been found drunk, Alexander Carey and Charles Hunter Mtie eaoli fined 10s, "or in default forty-eiglu hours" im-prisonrm-nf; nntl one female and three mevk-s, first offenders, were each fined ss, in default to be imprisoned for twenty-four hours. INSULTING I^NGUAOE. John H»:i Mitchell pleaded "Guilty" to a charge of having used inxulting language in a railway carriage on the Springfield train, but, urged in ixUimurion that for the first time for some period he had had two bp«\s. and on a passsngtn , speaking sharpiy to Mm he lvpliet: sharply. He wax sc-rry if he had used bad language. Sub-Inspec-tor Dwyc-r stated lhat there were several ladies in" the carriage, and that the language was very <itfcnMW. The accused was tiiK-d £1, in default to be imprisoned for fottyeight houra. ALLKGKD ASSAULT. Eilwavd Cowan was charg-cd with having avsau'ttd his wife on Saturday night, ami pleaded "Not guilty." The Clerk of the fours handed the Bench a letter purporting t.i 1k» from Mis Cowan, withdrawing the ch:>.ive. For having ciHi.miuvd a grossly indecent act on Saturday ivirernoon in ;■- public p.ace, P. J. O'Conneir and Man- Pcrielli were each sentenced to three, months' imprisonment, and Eliza Beagarie was convicted and discharged. IMPORTUNING. For loitering and importuning Catherine Stephenson was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES. Thomas Bell was charged with having been found illegally on Messrs P- and D. Duncan's premises/and with having lefustd to leave when requested. Ho pleaded "Guilty" to the first portion of the charge, but "Not guilty" to tha second portion. After hearing evidence the eiecused was fined 10s and costs. A STRANGE CASE. Matthew Kussei'l appeared on a charge of having been found in a helpless state of drunkenness. Sub-Inspector Dwyer, in asking that the accused be remanded for medical treatment, stated that he had been found at half-past eleven o'clock on Suuday night, with his liands tied, and bearing signs of having been in the river. The remand was granted. ALLEGED THEFT OF STAMPS. Walter E. Rose, charged with the theft of stamps and a gold watch and chain, the property of C. J. Fryer, was remanded on the application of Chief Detective Chrystall till the 19th.
