Johannesburg was <lecorat*d for tlie reception of Mr Che.mbeslain, and great enthusiasm prevailed among all classes of the community. Many addresses were presented, including <>ne from the Australians. Mr Chamberlain made a gnat Imjteria! speech. He appealed to all to strengthen Lord Milntr in the fulfilment of his gigantic ta.sk. If the Transvaal were peaceful, there would lie little fear of trouble elsewhere. He complimented the Imperial Light Horse and the other gallant Johannesburg Contingent*, and thanked Sir E. Hart on and Mr Sed.irin for their congratulations. He. dec.artd that no Briton appealing to the Motherland for aid would, if 1m; had a jus,: i-aiue, go away dissatisfied.
