THE WEATHER AND THE CROPS.

On Saturday a heavy thunderstorm crossed ths upper part of Ashley county, and rain fell for an hour. In Rangiora and Kaiapoi districts the rain was light, and did not affect the crops. Crops in the North Canterbury district are in the best of condition. A heavy hailstorm passed over Temuka and district on Saturday afternoon. It was of a few minutes' duration only, but a large quantity of hail fell. A severe hailstorm was experienced in the district lying north of Amberky on Saturday afternoon. The hailstones are described as being as large as small marbles. Some damage was done to the crops.
