THE NAVAL AGREEMENT
LETTER FROM LORD CARRINGTON.
United Pztsi Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.
(Received January 11th, 5.15 p.m.) LONDON, January 10
In replying to the comments of 'The Times" on the Melbourne "Age's" article, expressing distrust of the new naval agreement owing to the possible withdrawal of the Australian Squadron in war time, Lord Carrington contends that the strictures by "The Times" are undeserved. He says the old agreement would never have been sanctioned if tha Squadron were removable without the Australian Government's consent. An increased grant would be cheerfully voted under the old conditions.
