ASHBURTON COUNTY RACING CLUB.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE FBESS. Sir.s-Will you grant "mc space in" order to give some of my reasons for resigning' from the- new Ashburton County Racing Club. In the .first place the. delegates aprpinted by Sir George Clifford to form a new club from the members of the present existing clubs, and one; motion carried by the delegates was—"That the new club should hold a race meeting at Tinwald oh or about New Year's Day, providing the: Tinw&ld Club would pay over all their property and assets in Spur annual instalments." It wi*s on this understanding I agreed to act on the committee.

Now., my reaspns for resigning from tie club are these: —That the Chairman of Committee neglected to have the minutes as pissed by the conference read, and would only allow, when requested, a portion of them to be read. When this portion was read, which referred to the manner in which the Tinwald Club agreed to hood over their assets, he maintained it was incorrect. A

motion was then propped to hold a meeting at Tinwald about New lear. The chairman objected to Trawald in the motion. 'I *hen suggested adding, "providing the assets are handed over as agreed at the conference." This was not accepted. _A member of the Ashbmton Racing Club then moved—"TkTt the New Year's meeting be held on the Asuburton racecourse, wnicn another member of the Ashburton Racing '•Cl ub seconded. . , . ~ Now, this is altogether opposed to the motion passed at the conference. 1 then concluded it was the intention of tfie majority of the committee to ignore the resolution passed by thedelegates at the conference. ' Being quite disinterested from a pecuniary point of view, and having no axe to grind, I refuse to hz made a stepping stone for tfle purpose of assisting aa unpopular club by j indirect means.—Yours, &c., v CHAHii-fc.* DOHERTYTinwald, October 21st, 1898.
