THE TOTALISATOR.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRBSS. bir,—l have no doubt the owner Mr Chrystall refers to in his letter published by you to-day can take care of .himself, but in case no one else has written you to show how foolish it is for persons to write on subjects they know nothing of, I may as well point put Mr Chrystall's ignorance. It will show how much Mr Chrystall is to be relied upon. Mr Chrystajl says that the Canterbury Jockey Club paid away in stakes last season £15,205, of which one owner won £7128! Now anyone who poses, as Mr Chrystall does, as an authority on the totalisatcc, stake winnings, 4c, should take further lessons fipm his tutor to prevent similar absurd statements in future.
Why, I will guarantee that any boy in .Mr Chrystall's Sunday, school classes who goes α-racing, or even reads his daily paper, will know that the-£7128 was made up of prizes won at race meetings lisld in the principal centres, from and including Dunedin to Auckland. And if Mr Chrystall will take the trouble to verify, he will find that it cost the owner in nominations, acceptances/forfeits, &a, alone, in connection with the stakes won, something in the region of £1000. And, as he is such a good authority on these affairs, Mr Chrystall will be able ho doubt to estimate how much the cost of training and riding, travelling, and stabling, ftc, in connection with the above winnings amount to, and tell an anxious public hpw much, in" comparison with any owner in England, the winner of the £7128 provided, and what his profit was.—Yours, MAN OF THE WORLD. Riccorton, October 22nd. \
