KAIAPOI.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present—All the Councillors. Letters were received from MandeVille Road Board asking for 20 yards of fine shingle. Granted- From the same for a contribution towards the suppression of the small birds' nuisance. It was decided that the Council regret it could not contribute From the Christ's College Board giving the boroagh two acres to widen Cam street the full width. It was decided that the offer be accepted with thanks, and the Mandeville Road Board be informed of the same, as the road is on the boundary of the borough and that district. The surveyor's report was adopted. It stated that the soil removed from Mr Mclntosh's drain had been replaced. It was decided to invite tenders for carting and the supply of kerosene. In committee, tfhe' Council considered matters regarding the Dromoro reserve. A letter, drafted by the Finance Commitee and the Mayor, to the Minister of Lands, asking for a grant of £240 for repairs to the traffic bridge, was approved. It was decided to inform the Minister of Railways that the Council was disappointed that- the enlargement of the station was not to be carried out as promised. It was satisfactory that the plantations were to be cleared of scrub, and the Council considered that so large an area of land as that held in the centre of the borough should be sold to persons wanting building sites. The receipts were £33 8s 4d, and the present overdraft £7ab 1 lid. Accounts amounting to £25 3s «v were passed for payment. A tender to graze a part of Darnley square at 25s a year was accepted, and after some further business the Council adjourned.
