NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) NAPIER, October 15. There wai a large attendance at the Napier Park Racing Club's Spring Meeting to-day. The racing was excellent throughout the day, and some of the finishes were exciting. The Park Stakes Handicap was won by the Hon. J. D. Ormond's Spindrift, who got third at Hastings in the Spring i Handicap, and another of the Dreadnought colts got home in the Sapling Stakes Handicap, the youngster in question, Daring, winning like a racehorse. The | stare for the Flying Handicap was not a good one, but this was caused by some of the jockeys not trying to bring their horses up. During the day the sum of £4511 was Cut through the machine. T Rose paid tbe est dividend of the day, £9 9a. The following are the results :— TRIAL HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, ol 50 soys ; I second 10 soys from the stake. One mile and | a half. ! 150. Sir G. E. G. From an even start Tally-ho, Outlaw and Nightshade were first to draw out, and at the fence in the straight Outlaw showed the way, with Nightshade and Zaccho lying together, the others in close order. Passing the stand Outlaw had a length's lead of Nightshade and Tally-ho, and at the town bend the latter went to the front, but Z.ccho soon displaced him and kept in front to the finish, despite all efforts of Mozel and Nightshade, who finished second and third, with Repo. Tally-ho and Kiwi next. Time, 2min 51 3-sth Bee Dividend, £3 6s. CRITERION STAKES HANDICAP, of 50 soys; second 10 soys from the stake. One mile. 226. Mr W. Rathbone's eh g Blarney, by Apremont —Flatter, 4 vrs, 7st 71b .. (Lindsav) 1 156. Mr A. Portland's b g Aphony, 5 yrs, 9st 21b ' (Whittaker) 2 48. Hon. J. D. Ormond's b I Martyrdom, 4 yrs, 6st 9lb (A. White) 3 92. Musketeer, 7st 41b (Watt), also started. Aphony was the quickest to get away, but Musketeer and Martyrdom soon went to the front, with Blarney lying third. No change took place until entering the hill bend, when Musketeer took command from Martyrdom and Blarney, with Aphony making up ground fast. Blarney was the first into tha straight and, holding Aphony, won comfortably by a length ; Martyrdom just beating Musketeer for third place. Time, lmin 47 2-sth sec. Dividend, £2 ls. Waingongoro and Spindrift were the first to show m front, with Ua last. stand Waingongoro and Spindrift were still the leading files, Orion's Belt and Rip Van Winkle heading the remainder. Little alteration took place until going down the back, where Spindrift got up Closer to the leader, Orion's Belt and Zanella also making a forward move. At the hill bend Waingongoro fell back, and Spindrift led the field into the straight, with Orion's Belt, Zanella, and Rip Van Winkle following in close order. Resisting a challenge from Orion's Belt and Rip Van Winkle, Mr Ormond's gelding won with three-quarters of a length to spare from Orion's Belt, who was half-a-length in advance of Rip van Winkle, The Shr_w being about tbe same distance away fourth, Waingongoro fifth, Zanella, Ua, and Prince Charlie following. Time, 2miu I3.ec. Dividend, £7 ss. SAPLING STAKES HANDICAP, of 70 soys; second 10 soys from the stake. For two-year-old—. Four furlongs. 160. Hon. .I. D. Daring soon ran up to the I leader and came away with Manutake, but eutering the straight the quartette closed up, the Gisborne filly being the first to go back, while Brennan aud Sheet Lightning stuck to Daring, who, howe.er, had only to be moved on to shoot out, winning by fully two lengths, Sheet Lightning a length in front of Brennan. No change took place until reaching the back of the course the second time, when T Rose went to the front with a six lengths lead, while Brin was done with. Mutiny tried to get up, but the race was a procession, T Rose winning by six lengths from Mutiny, the same distance separating the two from Tiritea. Bnn a bad last. Time, 3inin 59 2 sth sec. Rounding into the straight Huaili very neatly came down, but Reid made a clever recovery. Paddy O'Rorke and Planet were disputing the leading position, coming round the hill bend, with Triton next. Once fairly in the straight the issue lay between Streamlet and Triton, but the latter carried too many guns for the filly, and won by a long neck, with Rainbow a good third, Goosander fourth, and Planet next.
