ALLEGED BURGLARY.
(PRESS association telegram.) INVERCARGILL. October 15. Martin Norman Breen, Charles J. Pemberton, James Power, and John Whybrow were charged with burglariously entering Templeton's store at Waikawa and stealing a s .fe containing cash and documents of the value of £800. On the application of the police the charge against Whybrow was withdrawn, and ho is the principal witness for the prosecution. According to his evidence Power w_s the ringleader, and it had been intended to commit the burglary a month before, on the payment of the co-operative workers, but they were late in maturing their plans, and put it off till the 2ad October. Power took out a window and opened the door, Pemberton going in and assisting him with the safe, and Whybrow keeping watch. They carried it a mile away, where Power tried to open it with a pick but failed, and left the safe in the scrub, thinking it was hidden from view. Breen waa very drunk when they met him some distance from the store. The accused were committed for trial. Pemberton and Breen have made written confessions of their guilt.
