Matata
Matata Institute members enjoyed an afternoon at the residence of Mrs Marr for their December meeting. There was an exchange of Christmas gifts. Menu for the Christmas dinner, the subject of the roll call, met with a good response. There was a discussion on “Is human nature born or made.” Carols were sung around the piano, Mrs Burt playing the accompaniments. The Christmas hymn “O Come, All Ye Faithful” first verse in English, second in Latin and third in Maori, was sung by Mrs Marr, Misses M. Marr and D. Riini. Mrs Burt sang “Trees.” Competition results: — Shoulder spray, Mrs Laugeson 1, Mrs Smith 2, Miss Burt 3; Christmas gift not more than 2/6 value, Mrs Laugeson 1, Mrs Conn 2; three small cakes, Mrs Smith 1; best flower, Miss M. Marr 1, Miss Burt 2, Mrs Taylor 3; best vegetable, Mrs Reichardt 1, Mrs Conn 2; Mrs Taylor 3.
