CHRISTMAS SHOPPING WILL BE A RECORD

Christmas shopping in Whakatane proceeds quickly towards record proportions.

Buying has reached a crescendo this week. Everything from toys to clothing has been in demand. Since Friday night, shops have been crowded.

Goods both expensive and cheap are sought after. Post office business reached a peak on Monday, when a queue waited for doors to open so that parcels might be posted in plenty of time to arrive at distant places before Christmas. The inadequate space of the Post Office was taxed to capacity. An augmented staff has worked overtime in handling unprecedented mails.
