Girl Guides Hold Annual Meeting
Among those present at the annual meeting of the Whakatane District Girl Guide Association were the Mayoress, Mrs Shapley, and Mesdames Santon and Ricketts, District Commissioners for Whakatane and Rangitaiki.
Reports on guilding activities in the district for the past year were received from Mrs Santon, and Misses Righton and Brunton, Captains of Whakatane and Taneatua companies respectively. Mrs Gartshore, delegate to the association conference at Napier on November 25, gave a talk on guiding. . The resignations of both Misses Righton and Brunton were received. Work-a-week will begin for the Whakatane and Taneatua guides and brownies on December 18. The target set is 12/6 a guide or brownie. Miss Rowse, the young leader of the Matata Guide Company, was congratulated on her company’s splendid effort whose average earnings were over 15/- each. It was decided that the Rangitaiki companies have delegates on the district committee. Election of officers:— Patroness, The Mayoress, Mrs Shapley; president, Mrs Hayward; secretary, Mrs C. Molesworth; committee, two delegates each from Whakatane, Taneatua and Rangitaiki. Election of officers for local committee: — President, Mrs J. Duthie: secretary, Mrs C. Molesworth; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames Shapley and Gartshore; committee, Mesdames S. N. Armstrong, J. Buckerell, R. McNaughton, Smith, Stenhouse, L. C. Newman, Ulph and Delahunty.
